Pierce County Jail Houses Charlton Prisoners

The Pierce County Jail addition has been completed, and renovations are underway in the older section of the Pierce County Jail.

One of the benefits to Pierce County is that the jail now will hold all of the county’s prisoners, which no longer have to be housed in area jails.

But the biggest benefit is the fact that the jail now is able to accommodate out of county prisoners.

Charlton County, which does not have a jail, is housing its prisoners in the Pierce County Jail now, and the prison population has increased considerably with the addition of Charlton County’s prisoners.

Sheriff Ramsey Bennett said that it is good to be housing prisoners for other counties. “They are paying customers,” he said.
